My name is Lyniece Catalan, and I am genuinely humbled to serve as one of the Assistant Principals of the richly-filled Gregory-Lincoln! I have served as an elementary school teacher in both self-contained and departmentalized settings. I have also served in an array of instructional leadership roles – including Blended Learning Coach, Instructional Specialist, K-5 Literacy Specialist, Secondary ELD, as well as an Elementary Assistant Principal – contributing to student growth and achievement, developing teacher instructional capacity and supporting campus transformation and accountability.
During my experience in the classroom, I was named an Amplify Ambassador and Amplify Teacher of the Year. I also received TEA academic distinctions for Reading, and was awarded New Teacher of the Year. The transformative work I’d done with student growth and achievement earned the TEA’s Teacher Incentive Allotment – designated Master Teacher distinction. I am also a proud graduate of HISD’s Advanced Leadership Academy.
I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Dillard University and a Master’s of Science from the University of Downtown - Home of the Gators! I later decided to walk in my calling of education, where I completed an ACP at UHD, as well the Professional Principal Preparation Program at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Honored to join the Gregory-Lincoln family, where together we will cultivate an atmosphere of excellence and provide our scholars with high-quality instruction everyday! I look forward to building strong relationships with our families, teachers, staff and the greater Fourth Ward community, as we collectively take Gregory-Lincoln higher.

I spent 5 years as a Middle School Assistant Principal before starting at Gregory-Lincoln. Over the years, I’ve also served in a variety of instructional leadership roles—including Instructional Technologist, Career Pathways Leader, and SMART Certified Teacher—supporting educators across the state in integrating technology into meaningful classroom instruction.
During my time in the classroom, I was honored to receive both New Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year distinctions.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University (Axe ‘Em Jacks!). I later received my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington.
At Gregory-Lincoln, my goal is simple: to help every student reach their fullest potential while working alongside teachers and families to create a safe, inclusive, and thriving campus environment. I’m excited for another fantastic year of learning and growth together!
