Social Studies

Welcome to the GLEC Social Studies Department!
At Gregory-Lincoln Education Center, we believe students thrive when they develop an understanding of their own culture and the diverse cultures of the world. Our Social Studies program enhances each student’s individuality and self-awareness while fostering meaningful connections to people, events, environments, and time periods—both past and present.
6th Grade – World Cultures:
Students explore the foundations of modern society through the study of ancient civilizations, including Egypt, Greece, China, India, and Rome. By examining the roots of global cultures, students gain a deeper appreciation of their own heritage and develop a broader worldview.
7th Grade – Texas History:
Students take an in-depth journey through Texas history, from pre-historic times to the modern era. This course explores key developments such as colonization, revolution, annexation, secession, and statehood—highlighting the rich cultural and historical tapestry that defines Texas today through its growth in agriculture, industry, and influence.
8th Grade – U.S. History :
Students investigate the early history of the United States, from colonization through World War II. The curriculum emphasizes the contributions of diverse cultural groups and examines the causes and effects of pivotal events, including the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World War I, and World War II.
By the time students complete their journey at GLEC, they have engaged with a rich, immersive social studies curriculum that broadens their perspective on the human experience and strengthens their understanding of the world and their role within it.
