School History

Gregory-Lincoln Education Center (GLEC) is a K–8 school located at 1101 Taft in Houston’s historic Fourth Ward. Part of Houston ISD, GLEC features a fine arts magnet program serving both elementary and middle school students. Originally opened in 1966 as Lincoln Junior High School, the campus became Gregory-Lincoln in 1980 when it merged with Gregory Elementary. GLEC is named after Union Army officer Edgar M. Gregory, a Freedmen’s Bureau leader in Texas, and President Abraham LincolnIn 2008, we planted roots in our beautiful new building—a space where tradition and transformation come together to inspire every learner.
